Kubernetes Workshop Series: CKAD Prep

Rule4, Boulder, CO • Saturday, October 24, 2026 • 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Scaling the Kubernetes Mountain

Overview

Join Chase Christensen (CNCF Ambassador, Kubestronaut, Kubeflow Maintainer, and AMLC Member) for an intensive, full-day, hands-on workshop designed to take you from Kubernetes novice to Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD).

We are bridging the gap between cloud-native infrastructure and the future of AI. Kubernetes is rapidly becoming the backbone of modern AI/ML pipelines, and mastering container orchestration is essential for scaling next-generation workloads. Come for the certification, stay for the notebooks and PyTorch model serving!

Workshop Highlights

  • K8s Fundamentals: Pods, Jobs, and Deployments.
  • Interactive Environments: Running notebooks natively on K8s.
  • MLOps: Deploying and serving PyTorch models.
  • Real-World Case Study: We'll use Kubeflow (an open-source AI/ML application development platform) as a hands-on case study to demonstrate how these core Kubernetes concepts power production-grade machine learning systems.
  • Advanced Logic: Controllers and Operators.
  • Exam Prep: Strategies to ace the CKAD.
🍽️Food: Breakfast and lunch provided!
🎟️Raffle: Attendees can enter to win CKAD exam test coupons and copies of the SRE Handbook.

Requirements

Hardware & OS

  • •OS: macOS or Linux (No Windows, please).
  • •RAM: 8GB is plenty.

Cloud Infrastructure: We will be running Cloud Kubernetes clusters using provided lab accounts for our main workloads.

Software Setup

Please have these ready before the session:

  • •Docker Desktop: Recommended for local image builds and pushes. You can also use Podman or any other of your favorite container runtimes!
  • •Docker Hub: A Docker Hub account is recommended for image registry workflows (pushing local images).
  • •kubectl: Installed and verified via kubectl version --client in your terminal.
  • •IDE: Your choice (VS Code, Vim, Cursor, etc.). Just ensure you can edit YAML comfortably.

Recommended Familiarity

  • •Terminal: Basic navigation (cd, ls) and CLI usage.
  • •YAML: Understanding indentation and syntax.
  • •Containers: High-level grasp of Docker images and runtimes.

Community Library

Thanks to our partnership with O'Reilly, the AMLC has a library of books to share. Stop by to grab a book, leave one you've finished, or browse—our goal is collective learning and community connection.

Ready to level up your container skills and prepare for the CKAD? See you there!
